Homeowner guide
First, get everyone away from the damaged area. Do not stand under a roofline, ceiling, deck, or porch that has taken a direct hit. If there are wires involved, stay far back and call 911 or the utility before calling for tree help.
Second, document from a safe distance. Photos of the whole tree, the roof impact, the trunk base, access points, and visible damage can help with both tree service triage and insurance notes.
Third, call for urgent tree help before trying to cut anything yourself. Roof-loaded limbs can shift, roll, or release tension in unexpected ways.
